e320 Cab - cost of replacing conv. top
May be in the market to replace my convertible top - starting to show signs of wearing driver side next to back window. Does anyone know the cost or is this a sign to sell due to the cost is excessive?

The price I was quoted down in DC was far less. I was quoted $1,300. (It may have been 1,500 ... I don't recall.) And this was for a German Haartz cloth top fitted by a known interior shop in No. Virginia.

Why are car parts & maintenance cheaper in the US than it is in Europe and more specifically in France? For a convertible top "top MB quality Alpaga" it is around 3500 to 4000 euros or $4100 to $4800! (material Alpaga Sonnenland: +/- 1000€ and labour +/- 2500€)!
OFF TOPIC :
I remember a year ago, I made a Lexus RX450 new price comparison between US and France. For the exact same model and aligning it with the same European taxes (higher in France than in the US): the price in Euros (sorry don't remember the amount in $) was 65000€ for US and guess... 81000€ in France!!!!
I send a letter to Lexus France telling them I did not understand the 16000 euros difference. I eventually got a call from the Communication department. To make a long story short the only valid (and honest in a way) reason given by the charming lady was: "French customer can afford such a price, so we charge this amount!"
Played for a sucker...I was! And recently, I saw that Lexus prices were lower than before...

Drop in sales (which is the case) or taking account of reality?

GAHH is a very reputable interior shop in CA. I would order from them. I've owned a couple of Pagoda SLs (W113) and that was always the go-to shop for quality and fit. GAHH.com
