Buying a 92 500E this weekend in Denver

The current owner is selling the car as I would, no BS and only points out what was replaced (With receipts) and all flaws pointed out.

The car will be dropped of at Denver Mercedes today for a PPI.

I have no time to go look at the car myself so feels like a bit of a leap of faith but if PPI checks out I plan to buy and ship the car over the weekend.

Any suggestions?

No history pre-2006. Work done on the car so far since than;

LOVE the car...been close to buying many times. Check for rust, and also check the transmission - especially how it shifts to reverse. The car's built well, but it will be VERY different than the newer MBs. Similar to my W124 E320 Cab...there's no URGENCY - the party starts WHENEVER you get there. The chassis is "tight" but definitely drives very differently than the newer MBs. Bottom line, just don't expect it to "appreciate" in value as a classic, and just enjoy the car...the upside will take care of itself.

I don't agree with that. I think it will appreciate and will age amazingly

I should clarify that I was not making a prediction that it would NOT go up in value. Instead, I was suggesting that it's best not to "expect" it and just to enjoy the car - that way there's no downside or disappointment if it doesn't happen.

Not a good idea to buy any car sight un-seen...let alone one of these.

Thanks guys.

I just want to drive one for a while and all cars cost money. With some luck I can ejoy the 500E experience without putting a fortune in.

Just not interested in the latest cars with all the gadgets, I think a 500E will go well with my '93RSA 964 Porsche that I just got and I just love it, so I thought I try something similar vintage :-)

Counting on a "lazy" but typically very capable MB ride quality.

I wouldn't call the 124.036 ride quality "lazy".....

Don't get me wrong, I like how MB's drive, but it always takes some recalibration the way the inputs are typically slower and longer. Than you beat on them and watch them hang on in amazement ;-)

I totally understand what your saying. New high dollar cars are amazing. The older ones are amazing as well. Just different. I recently sold my faster and lighter and sleeker C32. Bought a vintage 280S... just because. . Then I sold her to a collector and bought this high mileage 500E. Not vintage and not modern. But it hits a sweet spot. And it gets more attention then my C32 ever got. But the 280S got the most attention.

After 22 years of admiring from afar, I just got my 1992 500E yesterday and getting to know it - VERY different than my 07 E63, obviously
