E320 Dead Transmission?

I have a 1995 E320 Wagon with 225,000 great-running miles on it. In December I bottomed out in a dip and put a hole in the oil pan. Took it to a local mechanic here in rural Mexico. To remove the oil pan, he lifted the motor and trans quite a bit. Removed and fixed the pan and reinstalled it. I drove it away (a few days later), got a half mile and suddenly (within a hundred yards) lost all gears, forward and reverse. The only odd thing I notice (you know, other than the car not moving!) is that the shift lever is slightly misaligned, i.e. each shift point is about a quarter inch toward the motor than normal. "R" is between "P" and "R" and "N" is between ""R" and "N", etc. The shifter misalignment I don't really care about but think it might be a clue. (FWIW, I replaced the shift rod bushings about a year ago and the shifter was perfect before the work on the oil pan was done.) I am thinking that the raising of the motor and trans might have loosened a vacuum line, but don't really know where to go from there. Anyone?
