1996 W124 E220-What engine oil?
Hi Everyone,I am new in here, pretty sure that this query must have been beaten to death in the past, but i am in a fix here.
Just picked up a W124 E220 3 weeks ago with 190000kms on its odo.She has been fed with Mobil 1 5W 50 all its life, now due to some reason or the other,Mobil India has stopped importing this grade and what's available is 0W40.
So is it safe to switch to 0W40 from 5W50 considering that its an old engine with fair number of kms.The ambient temperature will vary between 0-35 degree Celsius over the next 6 months.

The original recommendations for a wide temp range suggests 0W/40--5W/40--5W/50--however that is a vey wide spectrum with much colder temps than you encounter unless you spend the winter in Napal
What other ?/50 weight oils are available

The only W50 available is either Mineral or Semi Synthetic, which i am not too keen on.
So i am thinking of shifting to 0W40;what do you think, will it be safe to switch?

It does not make a difference if you or any one else aware of a particular oil!!The most important point is if it meets the MB specs for your car. That info is typically printed on the bottle---therefore my question to you is----is the MB spec printed on the bottle???
Regarding 0W40 it meets spec use it!!
