W124 Merc E320 Sportline 1995 automatic

Hi.
Please assist me with the following or offer some advises as where to start looking for the problem.
My vehicle starts first time but then does not idle properly and switches off immediately. Whilst this happens the accelerator does not work also.
I have changed the fuel filter, fuel pump and the fuel pump relay switch about a month ago and the vehicle drove fine without any problems.
Yesterday the idling issue suddenly popped up again. I got the car towed home. When I started it again, there was nothing wrong, the idling was fine and I could drive again. What causes this ? Where do I start looking.
Any assistance /guidelines would be highly appreciated
Regards
Howell

Hello Howell,
Many issues possible to your problem:

- quality of the gasoline used,

- over load relay dying causing aleatory flaws in the electrical system. If so change it for a MB one not an after market,

- engine wiring harness if it is the original "out of factory" one. Should be replaced by MB recent ones (new or used but produced after 2000...)

- spark plug used,

- ignition coils (but all 3 dead at same time is rare),

- weak alarm set if there is one,

- ASR issues which can leave the car in degraded mode but most of the time you can still drive (slowly...) the car,

- check all relays and if they are properly connected to their base,

- gas pump that is declining because of its age + relay as well (but you did it already),

- gas tank full of rusted small debris, clogging the pipes and/or gas filter as well (but you did it already),

and... many other things. Good luck!
