Auto trans options for e420
I just picked up a green beast of a ride with only 50K original miles with a bad tranny. I've been searching for the past few days on what to put in it but still don't know what my options are. I'm not looking to have it rebuilt but replaced from another working vehicle if I can find one. I just don't know what to look for. I was told to stick with 94-95 e420s but I want to know what other cars I may be able to pull from. I found a 93 e400 with low miles for $300 which sounds like a deal but not sure if it will work.
Currently it starts with no issues or CEL but when you shift from park into reverse or drive you can see the rpms shift a bit. When you accelerate it doesn't move. Checked the dipstick and it is OVERFILLED by a lot. I'm about to do a fluid change but not sure if it matters at this point. Again it only has 50K miles so it should have at least another 100k of life left. LMK what yall think.*Thanks!

Why would you replace a broken transmission with another used one that you don't know the history of? Considering the time and labor involved you'd be better off installing a rebuilt transmission. Do it right and do it once otherwise there's a good chance you'll have to do it again.
From what everyone says this is the best place to get a rebuilt Mercedes transmission...

I understand your concern for getting a $1750 rebuilt transmission with an unlimited mile warranty. But that doesn't answer the main question of the thread. I appreciate your input but let me repost the question..
Would an automatic transmission out of a 93 400E V8 bolt up and work with the 95 E420 V8?
I'm first going to do a trans flush (drain & new filter) first before attempting to do a swap. I just would like to know that I have a backup plan that could fit in my wallet in case the trans still doesn't work after the fluid/filter change.
Second question: Could an major overfill of fluid cause the transmission not to move a vehicle?
