What are the most common issues, system failures, etc for E-Class Mercedes
I'm a fairly new Mercedes owner. I wondered what the most common problems are for these cars.
From the small amount of research time I've put in it appears that tranny failure is fairly common. Are there any preventative steps should I take to avoid future transmissiom problems.
Also what else should I try to be aware of? My car is a 1990 300E 167,000 mi. I got it from an old couple who kept it in immaculate condition. They only parted with it because to lady was hit broadside bending up the rear end on the drivers side.

Out Of Control!!
You have a low mileage car----just follow the prescribed maintenance programs and you will do fine---the issues are that with 20 year old cars and older wires and rubber tubing and seals rot----simply replace the obvious leaks/cracks as you go and bla bla

Head gasket and wiring harness are common. If the head gasket hasn't been done yet I would just keep that in the back of my head at that mileage. As long as the trans was reasonably maintained, that wouldn't be a real concern for me at that mileage.
