W124 ride along

Hi everyone,
I'm interested in buying a W124, but before I do, I'd like someone who has one in good shape to take me for a ride-along so I can get an idea of what to expect on a test drive.

Today I tested a 400E that was traded in at a local Nissan dealer. It felt sluggish and was stuttering at points along the drive. Obviously something was wrong with that car (fuel pump, I'd guess) so I didn't get a good feel for how one of these cars should actually perform.

I live in central GA, so if you're near Macon or Atlanta and would be willing to share a ride and some knowledge, I'd really appreciate it. You don't have to let me drive if you're not comfortable doing so; but I would like a spirited ride in one at least.

As for the car, I'd prefer to look at a 400E/E420, but I'm open to an E320 as well.

Shoot me an email if you can help. I'm happy to buy beers afterward.

Thanks,
Corey

Wish I could!

I live in Atlanta ga and have a w124 with the 500e motor dropped into it...if the thing hadn't died on me last week I'd be happy to give you a full spirited ride in her!! ...I'll let you know if I drop a new motor in...

Hopefully you'll get her running again and I can take you up on that offer. What happened that killed the 500?

I'm currently in the process of seeing what my mechanics can work out for me. It was having overheating issues, first there was a coolant leak in the heater core (not the easiest fix in the world), and then a month later she started running a little hot again and I had plans to take it into the shop that weekend, but unfortunately she overheated on my 2:30am drive home from work and hasn't started since. The crank will not budge at all now. My mechanic came to my house and basically told be the engine was screwed and I needed a new one. Won't know 100% what exactly happened until it does go to the shop.

Unfortunately, sounds like the mechanic is likely correct. Sucks. But a replacement E420 engine shouldn't be prohibitively expensive. Under $2k for a longblock + labor of installation, I'd guess.

Either way, good luck. Hope to read more about it.

I've got a 92 400E Renntech...probably a bit stronger than what you're looking for, but I'd be glad to take you for a ride. I'm in Atlanta.

For purposes of getting an idea of how a stock car should feel, that's not gonna help me much. But I bet yours is a beast. 6.0L?

Thanks for the offer.

No. 4.2 V8 with Renntech mods, Quaife diff, suspension and brake mods. It's not as fast as my 55 but it does run strong.
