Need Help-brake light issue

Hello

I have a 1995 E420 that I have just purchased. Love the car, but it needs some love. Brake light issue- driver side, press brake pedal- 1 bulb lights up bright, passenger side - row of bottom three bulbs all light up dimly.

This is definitely not right. Is this a grounding issue? How can I fix it? Any ideas where to begin? Thanks for the replies and help.

Well on your new hidden rust bucket, with emphasis on rust, you will never no until you remove the lamp assemblies from the fender and trunk---look at connectors and bulb holders and be patient!!

Wow, super negative guy. I have pulled the light trays, checked and cleaned connectors, and checked bulbs. Ground looks ok, but something is shorting. Anyone know any common culprits? I checked the fuses at front of car as well. I am going to try and following wiring in the next couple days.

Have you changed the fuses in the fuse box from the aluminum to copper?
If not that is a good place to start.

The rear tail lights utilize a light bar with a common ground. The strip is held in place by the plastic. Ensure that the light bar is completely seated. They can pop out causing a draw on the system.

Are you getting the bulb out light lit on the dash board?

Sounds like a bad ground to me. If there is light but low 99% sure that is what it is. Easy to fix. Just find the wire and trace the ground or make your own. All you need is a clean spot of metal and a self tapping sheet metal screw.
