1994 Mercedes-Benz E320
Highly uneconomical W124 320

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum. I'm a 19 year old from South Africa with a great love for Mercedes-Benz's!

I currently drive a 1994 E320 W124. It was never a particularly economical car, but lately its absolutely dreadful.

Before I could manage about 125km (80miles) on a quarter tank and a total of 430km(270miles) on a tank.

These days, I'm lucky enough to get 70km (49miles) off of a quarter and 280km (175miles) on a tankful.
As a student, you can imagine how much this is costing me, as its R1000 to fill up ($100).

The car had its gearbox replaced, one from a 4 cylinder model (would that make a difference?) as well as a mass air flow sensor being replaced.

There are no fuel leaks, and no smell of petrol.

Please help!

Thanks

Sounds like you may be living in a bad area---- no leaks, no gas smells no aceleration smoke----------------someone is stealing you gas!!(hire some kids to watch the car at night)

What was the gas mileage before the transmission was wrongly changed without considering the differential and the overall drivetrain ratios!!

The gas mileage was about 14.1l/100km, don't know what that works out to in MPG. Haha, my area is quite safe, I wish it was something as simple as a petty thief stealing my fuel. Thank you for your response, I appreciate it!

Ok thank you! Will have that checked out. Not sure if it applies to me, as my car doesn't have the catalytic converter?

Sorry if I sound ignorant!

But thanks for your advice regardless.
