Any tips for anodized smoke chrome?

i have a coupe with smoked black trim around the side windows.
Mine like most of them has faded and pitted in places.
Has anybody successfully restored theres to a factory finish?
i have seen some people have had them powdercoated matt black
which looks ok if the car has a bodykit with big wheels etc,but it
does nt really suit standard cars.
I have seen that mercedessource sells a kit to polish anodized trim
but i think its only for the chrome coloured trim as over polishing the
smoke trim would result in going back to bare metal,
am i correct?
