How to hotwire a W124 (300E)
So recently I had to hotwire a 1992 300E to get it back to my house (no keys) and I went to the internet for a tutorial and of course everyone immediately thinks you're a car thief and doesn't help. I had a parts 300e at my house that a practiced on so I wouldn't spend too long hotwiring the '92 in downtown Portland. Anyways its really simple, start by removing the trim piece above the steering wheel and unscrew all the bolts holding the big piece below the steering wheel. (i'm forgetting a whole bunch of little steps and details because I did this about a month ago) Okay basically remove the big trim piece that's between your knees and the steering wheel. Once you've done that you have to find a 4 pin connector on the right side by the steering column( its kind of deep in there and strapped to something) Get it loose and connect alligator clips to the bottom right pin for ignition on (not everything will actually work) and the top left pin for the starter motor. Next you have to find a positive wire to complete the circuit, I ended up running a wire from the battery but keep in mind a thin wire wont be enough to activate the starter relay. To defeat the steering lock you have to either drill out the pin on the ignition switch (really really hard and time consuming) or just grind it out. Trans shifter lock is bypassed by unscrewing the cable coming into the right side of ignition assy and pressing on the pin sticking out of the cable while shifting the trans into drive. I realize this isn't a very well put together tutorial but I took two scoops of C4 a few hours ago and I still have a massive amount of caffeine in my blood that's not really letting my focus on anything...
