Introduction. 1992 500e
Hello, just wanted to introduced my new to me 1992 500e.
In name all my cars and this one is no exception, meet "Hammer"
Not new to MB as I just sold my 08 S550 recently.
Most surprised about how tight these old cars feel and the high quality of the interior.
There are a couple of issues with the car as it has over 200k mls.
- instrument cluster is very dim and would like to know if someone in the forum rebuilds them here, the tachometer stopped working as well.
- clear corner lights are coming apart and will need to be replaced, currently sourcing online but point me in the right direction if possible.
- the sunroof intermittently opens and closes, nit sure if it's a wiring or switch issue, I will need to search the ads for this issue.
- I pushed the down drivers window button and both front windows opened, when I tried closing only the driver window closed. After 15 attempts on the passenger window switch it finally close, has anyone had this issue?
Hopefully the weather gets better so I can clean and polish the car
Thanks in advance for your input

Congrats on the purchase.
2 of your issues could be cured by a removal and cleaning. The window switch and the rheostat for the dimmer. With both take out the part and clean with electronic cleaner and something like a scotchbrite pad.
Be sure to use cleaner that is plastic safe

Both the sunroof and the power windows are controlled by the Convenience Module located under the left rear seat. It is not uncommon for water to get into these modules and/or for old age to cause this module to fail. The symptoms you describe are consistent with a failure in this module.
I have to search and see if these are available online or maybe even open it and clean it up.
Left side us passenger side correct?

Help!
The random opening and closing of the sunroof is making me crazy!
Is there a way to disable the sunroof like removing fuse or something?
Also I was playing with the cluster dinner knob and some led next to the headlight switch turns on Amber and green and makes a noise. What does it do?
I didn't get the manual with the car so I'm currently looking for one.
TIA

Under the rear seat on the USA driver's side (left side) is the convenience control module. There are five connectors, A through E. Disconnect connector "C" (the small one with mostly yellow wires) and the weird sunroof openings/closings should stop.

Thanks FB, it only took 2 mins following your instructions. Once disconnected it stopped, good thing it didn't rain on me.
Is there somewhere online where I can find this convenience module?

I would try eBay - I just checked and there are a bunch of them for sale for short money. Just search for the part number on your module (202 820 XX XX, but most probably 202 820 09 26).
