An E39 540i/6 BMW. Sorry.
FS: 1989 300CE

For sale is my Fathers 1989 300CE (posting for him since the internet is not his thing). I haven't listed the car on craigs list or kijiji as I think it needs to go to someone who would appreciate it.

The car has been owned by him for the past 21 years. He has spared no expense on maintenance. We have every service record since the car was purchased.

The car is black on grey leather interior.

-New A/C
-New rear suspension (just completed)
-New MB exhaust
-New continental tires

270000 kilometers

The car is all original, never modified ,no accidents.

Asking $10,000 CDN

Located in Cambridge Ontario, Canada

Here are some photos of the car:

A 27-year classic that still looks great! How did your Dad keep it so nice and clean? Perfect if fitted with time-correct original alloy rims in 17".

Lots of cleaning, polishing, yearly oil spraying (in spots that aren't a mess) and maintenance upkeep.

We went through the maintenance since new (somehow he has the maintenance records from the original owner before he bought it in 1991) and they probably total to over $50,000. 10,000 of that is within the past two years to make the car drive as new.

Really, someone is paying for the maintenance and getting the car for free

Anyway, its probably priced too high since I have had no feedback on the car. It will probably go into storage (a dry hanger) for a few years and we will take it to the MB Canada shows. I has had a pretty good reception there a few years. Maybe we will take it there this year with a for sale sign on it or something.

Thanks for looking!

No wonder! Classics are priceless, and are for collection than daily use. This CE will show much better if the rear suspension is lowered by an inch, and the rims are replaced by AMG Monoblock 17" or 18".

Those are temp springs installed while we find a set of replacement rears. One of the Eibach springs that were installed in the rear went south (only had 20,000km on it, the car has never hit anything so we have no idea why it failed) and all we could get in short notice was OEM.

I am pushing to have a set of H&R springs installed on all 4. I like their spring rates better then Eibach. Hoping that they are not NLA. H&R PN 29569-2.

I noticed that you quoted H&R Spring 29569-2, and would offer a word of caution in sourcing H&R springs. In most US sites, the description will say that PN 29569 will fit all W124 model years from 1987-95, and the pictures are always misleading as they are stock photos. H&R springs come in different colours and have the PN imprinted on the spring. I previously got the wrong info from a US site and bought a set of 29569-2 from a German vendor (same PN number but selling for less) only to find that after installation the car front was oddly 2.5 inches taller than the rear, with a big void between the front wheels and the wheel arch. When taking issue with the German vendor, the seller said 29569 is only for W124 with V8 engine, and pointed me to the H&R official site www.h-r.com, which helps you find the right springs against the chassis number. Mine is C124 with chassis number 124.050 and 103.983 engine so the right spring set is 29662-1. While waiting for the new set to arrive (I live in Asia and the spring set is real heavy and bulky so international shipping took ages), I reinstalled the front set with my original AMG sports spring (in white) and kept the new rear spring 29569-2 (in black), but when mixing front and rear springs of different makes, there were many trial-and-error attempts to adjust the front and rear ride height by varying coil spring rubber shims. They are available in different thickness (8mm to 23mm, and front and rear shims are different in diameter). The part numbers are common with 190E, as follows:
201 321 09 84 - (8mm) 1 bump
201 321 10 84 - (13mm) 2 bumps
201 321 11 84 - (18mm) 3 bumps
201 321 12 84 - (23mm) 4 bumps

I am now happy with my ride height (AMG front white and H&R 29569-1 rear black), and as this is a troublesome, time-consuming, laborious (can't DIY myself) and hence expensive operation, I am not going to take them out again to try out the whole new set of 29662-1 that finally arrived (this set is yellow in colour), which I plan to re-sell to others if there is any interest. I also have the H&R front springs 29569-2 which I have only used for and then removed after a few weeks.
