1992 W124 260E - To buy or not to buy!!
Hello guys,
I've been offered a 1992 W124 260E, which is in an immaculate condition. Midnight blue, with blue interior (MB Tex), manual gear, and only 90.000km driven. 100% original.
I was wondering how classic this car is already or could it be in the near future.
Comments are highly appreciated.

All W124s are classified as Modern Classic nowadays, so if you can find a low mileage W124 truly in immaculate condition, especially one fitted with a manual gearbox, why ponder? However, if you are a collector, 260E is not top of the range among the W124 series, and this would be a question of opportunity cost if you decide to buy the 260E, as other W124 or non-W124 models might be of better long term value locally (Brazil?) or globally. I personally believe that among the W124 the E36 and E500 would attract more interest in terms of rarity, so are some of the rarer models fitted with turbo kit of those days (Turbotechnics and Mosselmen). If it is a coupe and cabriolet, so much the better. A couple of years ago, RBYCC, a veteran forum member here, turned his 1988 300CE into a replica of the AMG Twin Turbo, fully following factory specs, etc. These cars would be hard to find and would surely fetch a good price.
Indeed, this is a world of wonders. Some years back, the UK MB Enthusiasts magazine featured a C124 manufactured in or about 1989, which was put in dry storage soon after the owner bought it. Everything was factory-fresh, and like just rolled out of the production line. This car was later released to the market but I do not know how much it was sold. There are many evaluators around the world that would give you some idea of how much a classic is worth. Some provide self-help on-line enquiries too.

Thanks a lot for your comments!
I'm aware that an E36, E500, or even a E400 would be much more rare and exciting. Nevertheless, finding one of this here in Brazil, would be really a miracle. I can't imagine how many of all this models were exported to Brasil. I believe that were very few. 300E and 300CE are much more common.
What can you tell me about the 260E engine performance figures? Is it an exciting experience? I've never driven any of them before. In reality, is there a big difference between the 260 and 300?

Well there are many resources on the web about the W124 in general and specifically on the M103 engine with the 2.6 and 3.0 variants. Here are two links which you may find useful.

260E belongs to the earlier years' model, so one manufactured in 1992 especially with the 5-speed manual transmission would be very rare.
You will have better idea of how rare and the market value of W124s are in Brazil.

It is in really good condition, it has any repair on the painting. 100% original. I also agree that the model itself it is not a rare one. That´s the point.
