Has anyone heard of this, the mechanic thinks the plug is backup and it needs to be cleaned. Please any ideas?

Mercedes has a UPDATED Rear diff cover to repair this ....Done several..
You can try to RESEAL the cover..but its best to replace the diff cover with the updated cover.

I had this leak 3 times and fixed at the dealer under warranty.
I think this is a common problem.

Take it to the dealer as I think the have the correct fix for it now.

Lightbulb Problem fixed.

The issue was minor afterall. The vent's were clogged. The mechanic, cleaned the vents, flushed the differential with synthetic diffrential oil. Problem resolved. Cost + oil = $94.
