maintenance schedule for '00 E320
Looking at buying a '00 E20 with almost 79K miles. The owner wants 18K for it. Very clean but I noticed a scheduled maintenance coming up on the menu. Does anyone know what the maintenance items would be @80K? Also, is this a good deal at 18K?
Thanks,
Dean

I agree. Obtain a carfax, make sure it has clean title. The price is very attractive assuming no body damage and mechanically sound. Keep in mind that lots of warrantee's have been expired specially the CAT converter. Have it inspected too before buying it. Dealers for the a car like that they buy thgem from auctions between 15,000 to 16,000 dollars. But these are auction prices. The next maintenance schedule recommended by my mechanic at 80k miles are:
1- Replace sparkplugs even thu they are 100k plugs. But recommended at 80k anyway. "Certified mechanic = $250"
2- Replace Transimission fluid even thu not indicated on the service manual.
Price = "$85"
3- Flush Radiator and Brake fluid if not not doen at 50k miles already. "$90"
4- Flush rear differntial fluid. "$89"
5- Oil and filter Mobile 1 synthetic every 7k miles even thu they say every 10k miles. "$95"
6- Inspect airfilter and replace if needed. "$25".
7- Inspect front fog lights. They have history of melted wiring defect.
That is a total of $634 dollars that will carry you maintenance free for another 50k miles. This is non dealer prices. If you take to a specialty European auto repair. Dealer prices are about $500 more.
Awonderful price for you for this car will be between $17,500 to $17,600 unless the owner has proof he did the above. Good luck

Would recommend you take the car to the mechanic you are going to use and have him (usually a him) look at the car BEFORE you buy. It is worth the couple of hundred of dollars to have the car inspected. Even if they find something wrong, you could use it as leverage to lower the price a bit. If something is really off, you could save yourself thousands of dollars by passing and looking for another car.
Find a mechanic who is experienced with Mercedes. Ask for a recommendation on this board or go to www.cartalk.com and look for a mechanic recommendation in their MechaniX section. Good luck.
