Need Advice: Replacing Side View Mirror Glass 2001 E320

While on a Chicago expressway, the passenger side view folding mirror hit a plastic construction horse that was sticking WAY out. The folding side mirror housing is intact, but the mirror flew off. Needless to say, I didn't stop to pick it up!

I've attached a pic of what I can see. The 2 red arrows point to 2 wires, which I assume power the heating element on the mirror. Both wires look the same.

1) does it matter which way the wires are attached to the mirror? I assume they plug into the connections on the stock photo (see red arrows).

2) I've attached a stock photo of the mirror glass that I plan to purchase. How do I attach the mirror glass to the base? On the back of the glass, I have pointed out 2 pieces of sheet metal with blue arrows - are these attachment points? I want to make sure I know what I'm doing before buying the mirror glass... Or will I need to buy the entire mirror assembly (arrgh!)?

3) I'm going to purchase the mirror glass from autopartsworld for ~$68. Know of a better deal?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. The mirror base does work great (both X and Y axes move).

Thank you.

(Let's hope I can figure out how to include images in this post...)

The mirror attaches by slipping the metal tabs and the little plastic nubs around the bottom of the plastic disk while keeping the top out a little. The wire at the top should be unhooked from the keeper but keep it on the peg. The top of the mirror should then slip onto the top part of the plastic disk. The spring then can be rehooked which holds the top of the mirror to the plastic disk.

The driver's side mirror has autodim connections as well as the heater.

The factory used some double-stick tape on the mirror or disk but I don't know if that is really required.

I bought the mirror from www.autopartsworld.com - about $40 cheaper than the dealer. If the picture doesn't look right, call the dealer and get the part number from the parts department. I see that APW's database for the 2001 mirror has still not been updated - what a pisser. They sent me what you see in the photo, but it was the wrong mirror. I returned it and provided the part number of the mirror glass I needed. To get the part number call the dealer. The dealer should be cool about it - if necessary, just tell them you're trying to save a few bucks and you'd like to hit the junk yards first before paying full price. To take your scratched mirror off, move it so the outer edge is sticking way out and you can see the wire on top. Use your pinky finger to flip the wire out of place (that unlocks the mirror). Then grab the top part of the mirror and pull that off first - the top part has 2 little plastic snap tabs that flex - one on each side. The bottom has fixed tabs. This assumes your mirror is the same as mine (97 vs 01). Good luck!
