Both my engine mounts were replaced. It was an improvement but I was kinda disappointed with the result. During the next few months my car developed rattles in the dashboard and at high rpm's it felt like the engine was hitting the firewall or something! Turns out the tranny mount was ruptured! This mount only costs €75,- so I guess it's worth looking into as well. The car is very smooth now.

I have a 60 day warrenty from my dealer. What exactly will they cover? I know Engine, Trans. What else? Will Shocks fall under the warrenty?

Two ways:
1) Use a large rubber bushing between floor jack and oil pan and CAUTIOUSLY lift engine 1/4" (NOT more) and see if vib is gone. If you lift more you risk damaging the fan, exhaust and air filter connections. Once up, you MIGHT be able to see some cracks open up looking down from above with a bright light.
2) Measure them. New, the top most rings are 17mm apart. When they reach 13mm they are condisered to be collapased. Since you can't really get in there with a tape measure, use a socket as a feeler gage whoose OD is 17mm. IIRC on my set that was my 12mm.

2004 e320 and 99 e320 wagon
i have had two sets of bad ones. the thing i noticed was a vibration while sitting at red lights. in park it was fine. when you are moving it feels fine, just when your in gear with the brakes on at a stop. if these are your symptoms, i'm pretty sure your ready for new motor mounts.

I just replaced both mounts this weekend. Feels like a new car. 98 320 with 75K. I had
rough idle when in gear.
poor acceleration
severe engine shake while starting.
I used the old school method to diagnose. Car in gear foot on BRAKE depress acelerator slighty and look for engine movement (rock n roll).
Both of my mounts were broken and leaking. (You could see the fluid on the engine block) Job took about 2 hrs..Good Luck... I have a couple of tips if you DIY. PM me.

+1 on inspecting for leaks.
Replacing was a piece of cake. Just went underneath and figured out what I needed to do (jacked the engine up, I remember), and replace.
