OK, thanks; I'll try that. I had replaced the cabin filters about a month ago, so I am already good there. Boy, were they nasty. As luck would have it, the fan has been working fine all day today. I hate intermittent problems.

BTW, if you already replaced the cabin filter, you'll need all of 6 minutes to swap out your regulator. It sounds like your cabin filter was in a worse shape than mine, so expect your regulator to be covered with leaves, dust and dirt as well. No surprise that they go bad in that type of environment, even if it's an electrical part. |

Tony,
Thanks much for the DIY -- the pictures in particular made it pretty easy, and with one hour's time and a hundred bucks the fan in my E300D now blows like a cat 1 hurricane. Add in that I had a chance to teach my son to solder, and it's a win-win all around. Matt W. |

TONY - Awesome "Class" .. i love it! Hey a i was wondering does this same blower also supply airflow for the heating in the car? My airflow is almost NON-EXISTANT in my car???
~tbone~ thanks again for sharing your experience with the rest of us on this Forum..it really is helpful!

I just received my new Behr W140 regulator from AutohausAZ and the instructions included with the regulator say it is a W140 and W210 replacement part. I haven't taken the old one out. I planned to work on it tomorrow morning. But I noticed that Tony's photos with this thread show a very short lead wire on the replacement W140 regulator. The one I received has long lead wires which looks more like the OEM W210 unit pictured in this thread. Hmmm. Is the newer replacement just a striaght plug in?
CORRECTION, This morning my wiring is exactly like the wiring in Tony's pics. Last edited by W210Wagon; 11-19-2011 at 03:11 PM. Reason: Too many Miller Lites |

T-bone,
On Ebay's main page search: MERCEDES BLOWER MOTOR REGULATOR W210 E320 E300D E420 Two items will come up. I bought the harness for 99.99 + 5 bucks shipping. This is not an endorsement to buy from this exact seller (though frankly they were timely and the thing works great), but this one piece fixed all my ills. My vehicle is a 97 E300 diesel, and I think this one works for a wide variety of MBs. Regarding whether or not this would fix all your problems I can't say, but for $105 bucks and two hours of your time, it's probaby a great starting point. Good luck. |

The blower went out in my 2001 MB E-430 a couple of weeks ago. It appears that the climate control unit is still producing heat, but nothing much is coming out of vents due to inoperable blower. Called the local MB dealer and talked with service tech. His quote included repacing Blower Motor Regulator, Blower Motor and Blower Motor Cover: $1,500-$1,600. Decided there must be a better way. Found my way to this forum and the "Tony Fix." However, if I am following thread info correctly my fix may be even easier and less expensive given I should have the "late" or "newer" updated MB original equipment. At autohausaz.com I have priced the following parts:
Behr Blower Motor Resistor/Regulator; Late version with female connector. Part Number: 2108211551 List: $210 / AutoHausAZ Price: $90.37 QUESTION: Is the BLOWER MOTOR REGULATOR/RESISTOR the only part I need to get the blower operable? From reviewing the thread, I am assuming that I will not need to replace the actual blower motor or the blower motor housing cover. See info below from autohausaz.com: Behr Late Model Blower Motor Assembly with Male Connector. Part Number: 2108206842. List $300 / AutoHausAZ Price: $231.56 Behr Blower Motor Housing Cover. Part Number: 2108352740 List: $54.71 / AutoHausAZ Price: $40.46 Per rec from thread I also plan to replace Cabin Air Filters: Mann Cabin Air Filter/Pollen Filter; With Activated Charcoal; At Blower Case Side; Set of 2. List: $72.95 / AutoHausAZ Price: $64.74 DO I HAVE IT RIGHT? ANY SUGGESTIONS? Thanks much. John 2001 E-430 Last edited by john.thrasher; 12-05-2011 at 05:38 PM. Reason: correct error |

In reviewing maintenance records for my 2001 MB E-430 I discovered that I had a similar problem with car in August 2005. At that time, the MB dealership replaced Blower Motor Regulator. The car was under warranty at that time and there was no charge. What got my attention is part number listed: 210-821-15-51. I believe that may be my current problem. I plan to replace Blower Motor Regulator and see if blower motor and climate control starts working. Per the thread rec, plan to have charcoal cabin filters replaced. Being someone with limited DIYer skills, my plan is to order parts from autohausaz and then go to my trusted (non-dealer) garage to do the work. I'll report back to let you know if I am successful.

Thanks for the write up. |

Finally got around to tackling this repair thanks to Tony's excellent step-by-step instructions. Blower had been getting weaker & weaker until it wasn't moving any air. Spliced in part #1408218451 ordered from AutoHausAZ for $160 and our '98 E320's blower is back in operation. This is a far more economical fix than having the local European car shop (or MB dealer) replace the motor, housing & regulator, as it's doubtful they're aware of this alternative. For anyone who's hesitant to take on this small project don't be - I don't have much experience doing this sort of thing but Tony's play-by-play is easy to follow. IOW, if I can do it chances are you can too. I guess when cars get around the 240,000 mile mark things like this may start to go. Luckily it's a relatively simple and not too expensive job.
Thanks again Tony! |

For what it's worth, I found the 140 blower regulator at FCP Groton. (fcpeuro.com) When I entered 1408218451, it came up with the regulator, but with number 1408218351. But this is the part number that some have used. So I have placed order. Cost is $58.64 and you can use a coupon to get 15% (SPRING15) discount. They also have the filter sets (2 parts) for $22.99 (part #2108301018 which is no great bargain, but at least parts can be shipped together. They have great shipping to Canada for those up North.
I bought regulator from fcpgroton on ebay - About $35 incl shipping within USA. Last edited by 107123210; 03-08-2012 at 10:30 PM. |

Installed the 140 regulator on our 98 W210 today. Easy enough job. I used crimp connectors instead of soldering (I am wintering in USA away from my tools. But Harbor freight came to rescue for the few tools I needed!)
Can't believe how much air flow I now have. Can't recall it ever being like that and we have had car since 2001. Thanks to all who provided this thread. |

Guidance on W140 Regulator for W210 replacement
I believe I have to replace my blower regulator on my 99 E320. After reading the forums, I have found that the replacement regulator ranges in price from $30 - $160. Any guidance or recommendations as to which unit will suffice would be appreciated. Thanks.
P.S. I did this duirng Feb 2011 and purchased the part from Importec for $69.95. I am interested in looking for a part that may last a little longer.

The fix worked for me!
I just bought a 1998 E430. Noticed when I bought it the blower was not putting out much. I ordered the part as described in this thread on Ebay. The part was $36.50. I was a little nervous but the fact the thread had pictures made this repair easy. I soldered the small wires but the big wire was too much for my soldering iron. Just used a but connector. Blower works great now. Thanks so much for this.
![]() One interesting note, the vendor supplied the "modification" instructions. When I opened them they were the same pictures and text from this thread. |
