E430`98 . Problem with air conditioner

Hi there!
I`m the one of the lucky onwers of E430 , but have some problem with air conditioner.
The problem is:
When I`m starting enginge (AC is turned on), first ten minutes goes cold air, everything is allright, but then, air becomes warmer and warmer...
I think the problem is with FANs (on radiator), because they don`t start to spin

So, is this problem is common for W210? Who had it? How to diagnose, is it problem with FAN or with any electrical equipment? Maybe be problems with some of fuses?

Thanks for attention.

P.S. I`m from Latvia, sorry for broken English.

Sounds like a visit to the AC shop would be a good starting point. Get an estimate. Most shops will estimate the job and tell you whats wrong for a diagnostic fee..................... Could be a simple fix. Then again, maybe not!

Good luck though............

Your evaporator temperature sensor is defective. Your A/C will work normally once you replace the sensor. It's an inexpensive repair.

Hm...FAN doesn`t spin because of evaporator temperature sensor? Is this sensor is responsible for this FAN?

My 1998 E430 had A/C problems too and it turned out to be a leaking compressor (I hope your situation is different because that was expensive).

Your car has 2 fans; 1 is the main radiator fan (shaft driven), and the 2nd is an auxillary fan that runs off a tiny belt (it is only supposed to run when the engine gets pretty hot). It was found that my belt was missing so that might be the fan you see not turning.

Good Luck!

Just hold the rest button untilm the 'secret menu' comes up, advance it with the auton button.
This will tell you exactly what is wrong.

I`ve tried it already, but there were no errors, pressure is ok, looks like everything is ok, except FANs. I also tried to turn these FANs on by connecting with two wires (+/-) directly to the battery (12V), but they don`t work...Also, evaporator temp. sensor shows 60 degrees, i`ve heard that it is too high.

Yes, the evaporator temp sensor can cause the fan not to spin. The fan doesn't spin when the compressor is off. The compressor is switched off when the evaporator temperature sensor is faulty.

Your electrical tests suggest a problem with the fan itself. The A/C should still work without the fan spinning, just not as well. Remember that you still have the engine fan and passive airflow when driving.

A/C blowing cold for 10 minutes and then becoming warm is virtually diagnostic of a bad evaporator temperature sensor. Since you don't have an error code for the sensor, the problem certainly can be something else.

Thanks for feedback! Anyway, on monday I`ll go to service to repair/replace FAN and evap. temp. sensor !

And to think those master techs went to school for many years to get this info and here it is right here!

Is this top secret?
