Talking E-420s

If memory serves, there were indeed no '96 E-420s.

There were '96 S class 4.2 L cars however, the S-420 with 3,326 units imported. Both the '98 and '99 S classes still had the older 4.2 L motors, with the S class not getting the newer 4.3 L motor until the 2000 MY!
Figure that one? If the newer 4.3 L motor is supposedly better, why was the older 4.2 L motor continued for so much longer in their flagship cars?

When MBZ started production of the '97 E-420s, they just kept building and sending 17,890 units here. They build out the E-420s late into '97 and maybe in 1998 because I heard they didn't have the newer E-430 motor ready yet.

The kids bought their '97 E-420 new in October, 1997. Next time I'm down in PVE, I'll look at their build month.

In contrast, there were only 4,542 E-430 units for 1998. For '99, no E-430 units are listed?

For 2000, MBZ lists 6,836 E-430 cars, but no more E-300DTs!
