ETS, ABS problem
Hello, I have W210 turbodiesel.
When I start my engine. 3 lamps turn on. It's ETS, ABS and red !.
So the car drive only on service gear, it is not showing my spead. Also It does not change any aother gear.
I have heard that it can be problem with the brake rele which is near by break pedal.
Also it can be some problems with rele block.
Maybe someone from you can help me with advice what to do?
Thank you

I have never heard of the car going into limp-home-mode with an ABS error. This sounds more like the car isn't getting a proper speed-signal or something. Anyone?

If in limp home mode you should have 1st, 2nd and R gears only in addition to a check engine light.
Also sounds like a speed sensor to me.
Can you pull the codes? Any batterry voltage problems recently?

Autozone is probably a lil bit far from Lithuania.
Speed sensors are located on both front wheels and the output shaft at the trans. Not certain if one rear wheel also has one or not.
How many forward gears do you have when you drive it now?
IS the CEL lit up?
For fun try turning the steering wheel lock to lock and holding at each bump stop for 2-3 seconds.

Hi,
Today we connected computer to my car.
Computer showed that the relay block is bad. Then we with soldering-iron have soldered all tracks in that relay block and now everything is ok
So that was the problem. Have a nice day

Yes - this is very common problem with 210; pissing off - no speedmeter working and all three lights on left hand side with bright light and ABS is not working, but takes only 30 mins to repair and costs are only 10 cents.
The problem is that ABS system is not getting any electricity - the relays are cold-jointed. Easy to fix; just heat the tin joints again . Does not need any pro guy . but if you are afraid of burning yourself, you may take the box to computer / instrument repairing shop to do the soldering.
How to do it?
Loose the battery cables first.
The relaybox can be found from co-drivers side in engine compartment. There is a large black, plastic cover with 4 screws; open it.
There you can see several fuses - one is for ABS (15 A), one for engine control (10 A) NOTE:if your engine does not run more that 3000 rpm and several lights are on, check this 10 A fuse first! The relay box is the one which has these fuses on top. It has also some wiring - pull those those out. Turn the steel clip on right hand side a bit and lift the relay box out.
Now you have the relay box in your hands.
Take it inside the house and open it with two screwdrivers by spreading it a bit. Do not use violent power - you may broke the outer cover; it is made from plastic.
Re-Solder (actually heating should be OK and enought, but you may add some tin, as well) the main electric connection on board - the biggest ones. Those are the ones, that carry the main current and are not properly soldered when the car was made in Germany by Turkish guys.
Put everything back - and: Simpsalabim: it works!

Hi Chili and others, thank you for great suggestions and explaination - I have the same problem as the Lithuanian guy and will try out the solding-tactic before changing the ETS-module, which also has been advised to me. The card looks very well however, so I assume that you cannot see the lack of tin or bad solding.
I notice nobody suggest the change of the ETS module - couldn't that be the problem?
Best regards,
johan

thank you again Chili - everything is fixed now. It cost me 20 euros to sold the contacts - now the car runs perfectly!! You have set me free from 3-4 years of uncertain long trips - and that's what a Merc is for, right!?
Ciao,
J
