1997 e320 side view mirrors upgrade or stock?
Hi to all. I have a '97 e320 and i have some ques about a side view mirror upgrade. I have seen some pics of this model with the side view mirrors with the turn signal light built in. what year are these mirrors from? do the turn signal lights work and how are they hooked up on a '97? does the mirror housing turn in using a motor drive or manually by hand? My car's sideview mirror (drivers side) got hit and I need to get a new motor and glass so I was considering upgrading to these other mirrors. I believe its possible but I may be wrong. Also is it worth doing, if possible, or should i just stick with the stock design? Also i need a new mirror switch, for mine is broken. sorry for the long post, but just wanted to ask and tell as much as possible. Thank you for all info anyone may have.

The mirror blinkers are just one part of the "facelift" that occurred with 2000 models.
There's no wiring for this in earlier models.
Folding mirrors were never available in the USA, but could be retrofitted with much expense. This requires new wood in console, among other things. Retrofit to pre-facelift model is probably more problematic, as the electronics probably aren't there.

The Model Update outside mirrors can be retrofitted on a early 210 with only two wires required for the turn signal upgrade as for the wiring the main wire harness runs down both sides next to the door sills in the plastic tray
Power folding mirrors require a new wire harness ..Mirrors..switch..and wood panel

unused leads leading from each kick panel, up into the mirror housing.
seems the cars would have been used to power the folding mirrors. but,
as you said, here in the USA the folders were not offered, ergo, the two
leads were left unassigned.
so the wiring can be pennies, the LED mirrors from Taiwan (Verta, et al) can
be had for < $200. you will need to paint the cover to match the body's
exterior. the rest is labor.
lucky for those those who own 96-99 and opt to retrofit LED mirror covers.
you simply wired the spare leads to turn signal trigger and ground, and
tapped into them under the mirror cover to power the LEDs. a good after-
noon DIY job.

Thank you very much everybody for all the great info you provided. It is very much appreciated. I will look a little bit more into the updated mirrors but I have a feeling I will stick to the original design. Thanks again.
