I am replacing passenger seat sensor (SRS) in my 2001 E-430.
I am replacing passenger seat sensor (SRS) in my 2001 E-430. I have SRS light ON for last 6 months and finally got time to replace the sensor.
I will be doing DIY per this link.
http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w210...placement.html
I have couple of question for you all.
1. Do I need to take my car to dealer to reset SRS light? Or once I replace the seat sensor the light will goes away and system reset itself?
2. Do I need to disconnect battery (Negative under rear seat) before I can disconnect wiring harness under passenger seat?
I will be doing this work on Sunday, any feed back or comments before it will be appreciated.

My srs light cleared by itself when I fixed the problem and there is no problem disconnecting the harness with the battery connected.

Replaced the passenger seat sensor - How to reset SRS light
I just finished replacing the passenger seat sensor. All went well. I restarted the car. The passenger Air Bag off light is NO longer ON, but SRS light on Instrument Cluster flash once and then came back ON.
Any one have any idea why SRS light still coming on? I know that passenger air bag off light is no more ON. So it is telling me that putting new sensor in seat is working, but why SRS blink once during start of car and then staying ON.
Do I need to reset SRS? What tool you need to reset SRS light? How about disconnecting battery and reconnecting again?

Local shop want $120 to diagnose/reset SRS with Star Diagnostic System
My local Indie shop with SDS wants $120 to reset my SRS and find the code.
Is there any other way to hook up OBD II scanner and reset SRS??
Ohlord, the OBD II scanner from HF does not show SRS code option, do you know if there is any other OBD II scanner that can reset the SRS.
Any help will be appreciated.

Nope it wont reset
the srs.
Find an indie shop with an sds and have them run the diagnostics and clear the sds code.
You should be able to find a shop with one and they will be cheaper.
Been busy building a cabin so i have not been online much.Funny I heard you calling

Thank you Ohlord
Ohlord thanks for coming out and confirming what I thought will require.
I ran the same on other forum and got info on tools that can reset SRS. I went and order one last night (from China over e-bay).

I fixed the cable on my car's sensor a few weeks back. The light was on for 3 years before the repair. As best as I can tell, the system does a continuous self check. I know repairing the cable corrected my issue without the need to reset anything.
The light comes on at startup each time - pretty much to let you know that the light still works (all dash lights should light up on startup). They should all go off shortly there after.

Guys, I see a few cases , including mine, where the sensor was good and the problem was just one of the brittle single core copper wires cracked somewhere between the connector and the sensor. Most likely the bending stress on that kind of single core wire as the seats are adjusted up and down can cause this failure. It could be a case where a design engineering deficiency (using single strand wires on moving cables, for that matter in a car for pits sake) was slowly enhanced by the fact that the tie wraps used to mount the cables under the seat were too tight and provided not much cable slack and after a few years (3 to 5 usually) they usually brake.
So check the 3 wires first up to the point where the cable is tightly attached under the seat before going into the cushion.
Post your experiences here as it seems some of these repairs could be done a lot easier than removing the seat, etc. It is a really painful process, specially to re-attach the leather wires to the clips from under the seat.
p.s. replacing the sensor or fixing the wire was all that it took to clear the SRS light. and Yes I had it on for a long time and only today decided I had all the parts, tools and time to fix it.
Maybe I should start repairing these sensors and selling them on some auction places. How about if I sold a "re-manufactured" sensor (with repaired wires) for $65 plus s/h of $9 and paid $15 for the old "failed" one if returned to me? LOL. Now that's an idea.

That was my problem. The wire is tied to a sharp edge on the bottom of the seat and it cuts the wire eventually. I spliced it and it worked fine, but loosened up after a while. I ended up replacing the sensor. Had an auto ulphulstery guy do it for $50. No reset was required. light has been working normally for 3 yrs now
