1999 E320 ASR & Anti-Lock Brake System Lights Came Up

ASR and Anti-Lock System lights came up while I was driving my 1999 E320 this morning and they stayed on. I lost anti-lock brake ever since. After I stopped the car and pulled the key, the ASR module behind the windshield washer fluid kept running. Do anyone know the cause of the failure and how to fix it? If by the dealer, the cost? Would the battery be drained if the ASR module keep running? Thanks for your help.

If it really is running it most definitely will drain the battery and could possibly damage the ABS(ASR) pump, try pulling the fuses to prevent that, as to troubleshooting you'll need to go to a good Indi shop which specializes in MB or go to the dealer to read out the codes first, then once you know what you're dealing with you can decide what to do next.

You are spot on. The ABS pump stopped 19 hours later after it drained the battery. I pulled every fuse under the hood but none of it stopped the ABS pump. After the car was jump started, all the error lights were gone and the car was running normal. The car was checked by MB dealer but no error code existed. I was given a $2100 price tag to replace the ABS unit if I wanted to. "No thank you". Do you know where is the fuse of the ABS pump located? Any idea as to how quickly will the problem come up again? Thanks for helping.

It looks like, the main power comes in unfused, so you would have to disconnect the plug of the unit itself.

Good luck.

Thanks. I am unable to find the plug. Do you know where is it located?

It is big, black and rectangular, located on the ABS/ESR pump, you relly can't miss it. Don't disconnect it unless you absolutely have to, as it may lead to speedometer no longer working, and over malfunctions.

Wait a minute the problem is very very simple,, change the damn break light switch ,it is right above the paddle ,, cost $20 at the dealer takes few minutes to replace and your problem will be gone
