E270 cdi catalytic filter block, power los

big issue with my exhaust filter. just came from the mechanic. car loses power because of the block of the exhaust filters. he told me that it is inposible to clear or repair so he will cut the exhaust and replace with a piece of pipe.

How stupid can he be to say so? or are mercedes guys so stupid to give him no other chance but cut my car i pieces.

Any experience about this, any suggestion?

What you choose to do depends a little on where you live. You can replace the cat with a straight pipe, a universal cat or a factory OEM cat. Some states don't do any emission testing and people there opt for a straight pipe (Oklahoma is one I believe). Here in California it's a good idea to make sure that the cat is ARB approved to avoid hassles at smog test time.

E220 CDI

is a W211 model. Why not locate a replacement particulate filter and replace it.Will cost more but you won't be bothering about it.
If you are in the UK you won't pass MOT with a pipe installed when they do the visual inspection.
My advice,find a better mechanic.

OK well, my car is a w210. being that it is a 2001 model it is a bit hard to find original part replacements so you have to be arranged. I live in Albania, Jeremy clarkson on its 2010 top gear cristmans special observed that in albania there were more mercedes that there actualy are in Germany so there are many mechanics who are specialized in mercedes. All of them say: Dificult to find, cut it off . i dont realy relay to much on this answer.

actully i just passed mot. the car was exelent, beter than my brother 2008 golf diesel (merc 1,38, golf 2.24). but when you push your pedal flat down you can listen to the air blow and feel the power loss.

I was asking: 1 can it be repaired, or be sth meter that it is; 2 can i find the filters online, where and how to serch; 3 used part, may it be the answer?

Thanx
