passenger side mirror????

2002 E320 passenger side mirror motor keeps hunting around when car is in reverse. The mirror goes to the correct position for reverse.... Mirror goes back to the set position when car is in drive without any motor hunting. Has anyone experience such problem????

Thanks

try removing the mirror cover and examining the innards to be sure there aren't
any foreign matter jamming the moveable parts. i've found insects, wasp nest,
leaves etc

also, it is possible to force the mirror so that it isn't centered and may cause
interference with full mirror travel. you may need to grasp the moveable mirror
portion and help center it.

this may make more sense once you've removed the plastic mirror housing and
examine the mechanical assembly in naked form.

Thanks Raymond, I forced mirror left and right a few times and check. Mirror has quit hunting when car is in reverse. Thanks again:
