Any tips/advice for Brabus Monoblock IV's?

Any tips/advice for Brabus Monoblock IV's?

So I finally picked up a set of monoblock IV's, which I have been searching for a while for. I got them yesterday, and the guy told me that they should just sit on the hub with no issues. But I've read on here that I need either hubcentric spacers or hubrings because the hub bore on these wheels are larger than the Mercedes 66.56. Can someone please clarify that for me? And also, tips/advice/things I should be careful with are much appreciated. Thanks!

Emm...can you not measure the bore with tape measure? Or take a wheel off and see if the new wheel moves around on the hub.

The center bore should be fine, pull one of your wheels off and do a test fit, only takes a few minutes. The offset and tire you choose to run will determine if spacers are needed.

did a quick test fit this morning and it was fine. the wheels are 18x8.5 ET 35 with 235/40/18. should I worry about anything rubbing? btw I had them mounted earlier today and they're beautiful

Your wheel and tyres are the correct size. However, the E55 has rolled arches to allow these to fit without touching.

the front wheels on the e55 at ET 31 and it runs 245s. At ET 35 with 235s you should be fine. Check the clearance on the bolt on the upper control arm.

I am running 18 x 8.5ET38 with 245s and a 10mm spacer only rubs on big bumps

From my handbook:

E55:
Front, 235/40 18
Rear, 265/35 18.

The front wheels are 18x 8j, with et 31 (though this is a 8inch wheel) the et for a 8.5 inch wheel would be 35.

The rear wheels are 9 inch with a 35 et.

No mention at all of 245s.

and I had a newbie question to ask too... I have a slight steering wheel vibration around 55 mph. what could this be from? the last time I had this problem, it was because of spacers, so I just took them off. Now I have no spacers and I'm worried about what could be causing it.

where does it seems to be coming from. Could be lots of things

Alignment, bad tires, worn suspension parts, ball joints, control arm bushings, etc.

do the monoblock IVs use conical or ball seat lugs? and what length would I need?

got the right bolts, but it seems like the front wheels might slightly be rubbing on something. could that cause vibration in the steering wheel?

the dark spots are where the wheels could possibly be making any contact.

Vibration at 55mph

I couldn't let your post escape me.

I have the exact BRABUS Monoblock IV w/ offset ET35 Size 18x8.5, but mounted it on an SLK230 R170 body.

I experienced the same vibrations as you describe them to be, despite all the high-speed balancing on tires / alignment, etc.

I solved the problem by installing hub-centric center rings on all 4 tires.

The original MB hub size is something like 66.7cm whilst the Brabus is much larger (in the 70s). That said. The rim does not sit squarely on the hub (of the car) and so all the tension are on the 5 bolts.

Where I am (Philippines), I had the rings specially made by AUTOPLUS, a performance tuner, who measured my hub and the diameter of the center hub gap of the rim. When this was installed, the vib went away.

I'll be in the EDSA area on Tue. Will make sure to pass and get the hub spec of the rim. Will also try not to forget the thickness of the center ring which you will be needing.

Did you try to install the BRABUS by yourself? Did you notice that there was a required effort to perch the rim dead center (aimed with the 5bolt pattern in mind) when turning the bolts in place?

With the hub centric center ring fitted onto the hub of your car, you should be able to perch and fit your rim on the ring and leave it there hanging, even with the bolts not screwed in place yet (just like you do w/ the OEM rims).

I had a tire shop do the measurements for me and I was told that the hub bore of the wheels matched the hub of the car. However, I still get pretty obvious vibration from 45mph and up. I'm stuck and don't really know where to go from here. Any suggestions?

Did your tire-person use a digital calliper to determine that it is the EXACT fit?

The photo below is my BRABUS MonoBlock IV as it got fitted with the hub centric ring. Note that the thickness of the ring represents the gap between the hub of my car, and the hub size of the rim.



I'ld like to think that our rims are exactly alike. My application of the rim though is on the R170 SLK.

Let's both do research on the web (maybe even the forums) and determine whether the W210 E320 and the R170 SLK230 have the same measurements.

Thanks again for your input. I have a feeling our wheels are the same too. The way it sits on the hub is exactly like how you described. The only thing is that the guy who did my measurements kept telling me that the wheel doesn't sit properly on the hub because of that supposed "taper" our wheels have, like you can see in your picture there. Is that where I'm supposed to put hub rings? Again, your help is much appreciated. Thank you!

Asked a few other people who had the same wheels and they told me that the hub bore of the wheels was 76, so I needed 76-66.6 hub rings. Thanks to BADwayz and jserio of benzworld!
