Mechanical key doesn't lock trunk

I have only one key for my 2000 E320 (others on order), but my mechanical key doesn't double-lock the trunk. It works in the door and glove compartment, but doesn't turn the cylinder in the trunk, at all. Anyone had this experience?

Yes, the key fob works fine.

I'll give the WD40 a shot, but it doesn't feel stuck - it doesn't feel like it's even trying to move.

No love with the WD-40. Anyone else have an explanation?

I'm starting to wonder if the trunk is keyed differently from the rest of the car for some reason...

If the metal key will easily slide into the lock yet not turn in the trunk lock either R or L, but yet open the drivers door, then I would agree with you that the trunk lock is keyed differently---------Have you never opened the trunk???

I've never had any trouble opening it with the fob (though the console button seems finicky). I hadn't even thought to try the key until recently when I was valet parking, and wanted to double-lock the trunk, but was unable to do so.

I am also very confused with this post------please quote from the owners manual your description/procedure for what you are calling "double locking"

I don't have my manual in front of me. I'm talking about the manual locking (I think it's a turn to the right) that keeps the electronic key from being able to open the trunk.

I'm having the exact same issue. Can't rotate cylinder with the mech. Key. This car has had a past insurance claim, I gotta wonder if a trunk lid was swapped used in its entirety with no consideration for a mech. Key.
Which now begs the question, can a replacement be had that is keyed properly?, or will an entire lock set have to be purchased?

it's not easy to turn given the lack of leverage with the skinny metal footprint
of the key. it may require a little help (not too much) with pliers. DONT
OVERMUSCLE it if you do use a tool
