Glad or Sad? 1999 E320 4Matic Wagon-158,000 miles
Would appreciate your input as I'm sure most of you have forgotten more about vehicle repairs than I've ever known...
A prior owner's service records indicate a "new transmission" at 99,501 miles. However, my call to a dealer indicated the following repairs were performed: "Valve body, conductor plate and speed sensors."
Is this a major repair? One expected at this mileage? Should I be glad this work was done, or may it be a precursor to something worse? I do on occasion hear a "clanking" noise when slowing down; also a clanking noise when shifting from park to reverse, or drive.
Thank you.
