'99 E320 wagon w/self leveling, shock/strut suggestions plz

Just bought a great wagon that I love with 200k mi for a song and saw today that the shocks are the original factory installed so I will be replacing them. First question: Do I have to go with OEM to retain the self leveling feature I like so much and wish to keep?

While I do enjoy a firm sporty feel while driving, i don't think this heavy car should try to deliver 3,000 lb track car performance so am looking to retain the firm but nice factory ride with lope. From reading some threads so far, it looks like my choices may be Bilstein and Koni, and I also saw Monroe, and I guess could consider OEM from the parts dept. 2nd question: What brand/model no. would y'all recommend considering I'd like to retain the smooth sure footed lope and factory self-leveling feature?

FYI, not sure if this will matter but also bought a set of 18x8.5 wheels and will run 235/40's

Thanks much!!!

The rear shocks are basically hydraulic rams. If they are not leaking they are good no matter how old. I would look to the accumulators first to sort out any ride quality issues.
