E220 cdi fuel pump question

Hi
I'm on vacation and seem to have run into some diesel delivery problems.
When I opened the diesel filter canister in the engine bay there was just a small amount of diesel in the bottom of the canister.
This makes me suspect that a fuel pump might be failing. Does the W210 cdi's have a pump in / near the tank, or is it a suction system that relies on the pump on the front of the engine?
My fuse box lists fuse 6 as the fuel pump fuse, but there are no sockets and fuse in place 6.
I've filled up the canister with diesel and restarted the car after a few cranks. There seems to be a bit of air coming through as well but it is still running at idle after 15-20 minutes.
I'm kinda hoping these cars don't have a fuel pump in / near the tank, but I need to make sure before I continue my troubleshooting.

The specific answer is ----NO

The fuel supply consists of tank-fuel preheater-fuel filter-fuel pump-electric shutoff valve-high pressure pump-pressure regulator valve-rail presure sensor-injector

Thanks for the quick reply!

I've had the car idling for 4 hours now and drove a slow test trip of about 1 km without problems. Hopefully it will work fine. I'll try to take it on a longer trip after adding more diesel to the tank and see how it behaves when I give it some gas and hills to climb.

It started acting up after I replaced an o-ring on the shutoff valve outlet pipe. It was leaking diesel from the connection. I think it's the shutoff valve anyways. The pipe comes from the diesel filter and then exits the unit. It's located on the very top of the front of the engine. I think above the high pressure pump which is just below it.

Just to follow up and describe the solution:

In the end it was a failing o-ring on the diesel pump intake pipe on the front of the motor. It seems to have caused some air to be drawn into the fuel pipes. I replaced the o-ring, but after a few days the pipe rocked loose again causing a stop and a spill of diesel. After finally getting the o-ring and pipe properly seated in the pump it's been running flawlessly.
