"display defective".... car dies wtf!@#$#

Newest problem with 99 e320 (besides paying $150 to get rear tires torched off car) now when I turn head lights on, the car says display defective and dies. But if I pull back to flash the head lights 90% of the time the car won't die. Also when it does die from just pulling back on turn sig. It doesn't give the display defective message it just dies. I had a caddy years back that had similar issue after we changed engine. When you would hit the high beams on occasion car would stumble and display would trigger the anti theft starter interrupt message. telling you, you can't start the car for 5 min... even though it was still running. Ended up being a ground issue. Can I be that lucky again?

You got a 700 dollar car that you put 150 into over tires---you need to stand in front of a mirror and ask yourself---WWWTFP

Actually it was a 350 dollar car and the 150 didnt include tires it was solely to pay someone with a cutting torch to cut off the snapped bolts holding the rear tires on. I do have to say wtf on a few things what was Mercedes thinking when they designed them long wheel bolts. But that's over n done with. So am I correct to assume from now on I won't be getting any help cause I didn't spend thousands on my Mercedes?

No, you would not be correct. I dare say that most of us have bought older cars. Old Mercedes can seem like bargains until the costs of fixing them are included in the calculations. You will get used to it. The internet is a big help toward keeping the cost of repairing them to a reasonable level. And learn to ignore Pluto.

Plutoe can be fun.

Anyway, to deal with the chip on your shoulder first...few on here have paid thousands for their cars.

Now, to your problem...as you rightly guess...it is very likely to be your earth (or ground as you guys like to say). Check the brown wire connections behind the head lamp units.

Ok so upon further inspection the offending headlight (pass. Side at least I assume so cause when headlights are on the high beam indicator witch won't turn off, when I click between high n low beams it flashes with the turn signal incidentally the same signal I had just fixed b4 this problem) when I looked under the hood the I found rhe cover had fallen off from behind the bulbs. So im assuming something is now un happy about that. What can get wet and cause this under that cover?
