I'll be moving to Albany next year as a student and bringing my car along. I'm particularly worried about my E320 though. My home city is very safe, so I've never had to worry about anything haha.
- It has a hood ornament and a nice stereo system that is visible through the back windows.
- I'm afraid someone will steal the ornament and go even farther to just take parts from the interior of the car.
Are there precautions I should take, such as avoiding street parking? Will my car be safe in the parking lots of a nice apartment complex and grocery stores?

Stealing is most a crime of opportunity. I once had a CB radio stolen while watching a parade about 3/4 of a block from where I parked my car! If I had just turned around I could have watched them do it.

Generally, areas with lots of people around are safer that deserted areas. If I were you I would just concentrate on my studies rather than worrying.

A smart thing to do is contact the local police---they have all sorts of crime statistics for all the zip codes---then just be knowledgeable!!
