Engine swap/replacement
Hello.
I tried to find a thread about engine replacement on a W210 1998 E200, but i couldn't find any, so i made a new one. Hope it's ok.
I live in Norway, a really bad country for cars. As a result of salty roads in the winter, my car is full of rust. The engine and gearbox on the other hand is working perfectly. I was thinking about maybe importing a car from Germany or something and swapping the engine from my car to the imported car, since the engine and gearbox on that car may be ruined from driving 250 000+ km on the Autobahn.
Anybody got experience doing this? Anything i should worry about regarding the electronics? I've been told by someone (not a 100% reliable source) that it can't be done since som electronic sensors have got "memory" and will sense that the engine has been replaced. The ECU will of course have to be swapped over, but anything else?
TL;DR: replacing engine, need i swap more electronics than ECU?
In advance i will like to thank everybody for their time and answers!

Out Of Control!!
The issue with an engine swap is the effects on the drive authorization system which consists of the ignition switch, key, ECU and steering lock control---they all have to come from the same car, same car means model, model year or you will never be able to start the car!!
Forget the swap purchase a newer car!!

MBWorld Fanatic!
if you swap the engine, ignition euc etc with the engine it should be fine. But i think you will need to get a car from the same year or older because some things changed when they did the facelift 2000-2002 vs 1996-1999

As long as you're swapping the same engine you should be good! I just did a 4.3 (w210) m113 to 5.5 (w208) m113 and everything worked out perfect.
Maybe prefacelifts were different but as long as everything is matching up, should be good. Obviously, do some more research before spending money!
