Transmission leak

I have a 2000 E320 with 45000 miles on it. I saw some oil in the transmission area. The manual says that there in no dipstick because the oil fill is permanent. Has anyone familiar with this model year?

Plutoe. Thanks for your reply. Is there more you can tell me about the tool? Is there a procedure to follow?

Yes---it is called goggle or even closer if you look up at the forum menu bar, and look very close to the center of the bar there is a word spelled "Search"

In both areas there are thousands of answers to your very specific question---don't wait to be spoon fed---learn something!!

The tool is just a dipstick that is used to check the fluid level just like any other dipstick, however, it is too long to leave in place so they call it a tool. Every Mercedes owner should have one. The level is checked with the engine running and in park after moving through the gears, just like most cars.

Pluto is clearly off his meds again.

It's also important to park on level ground and to make sure the transmission is at full temperature. For most of us this is best accomplished by driving the car for 20-30 min. Also, after parking wait a few minutes for the level to stabilize. Make small additions to reach the upper 80 degree band. If you over-fill you need to drain some out since over-filling can result in transmission damage.
