Key Fob issue - Do I have to remortgage?

I have a 99 E240 and one fob (A) the unlock button does not work (as it does not make the connection on the fob) but the boot and locking functions work. The second one (B) works on the fob but the key does not slide out when placed in the ignition.

Can I just replace the fob outer on (A) with an ebay equivalent and would that work?

Is there anything I can do to (B)?

Or do I have to pay the price? MB quoted $650 per fob!!

$650? You should get a kiss and Champagne with that!

I thought I was screwed when the San Antonio MB dealer charged me $278 for a new key fob and key for my '99.

Try calling San Antonio and see if you can save $350 or so....

Edit: When you say "... the key does not slide out when placed in the ignition", are you referring to the entire key fob? I'm confused by your description of the problem.

Care to share where you got it?
I'm in need of a new key.

Bought the empty FOB on EBAY and put the inside card from my old FOB in it and works like a charm. Total cost around $11.00. Worth a shot. There is instructions in the forum. Use care opening the old key FOB.
