stolen key! can I change locks?

My wife had our spare keys to everything in the merc which is a w210 e320 v6 98. Now who ever has the keys! Stole them from our drive way or her work! So they know were the car is. I'm wondering if I can change the codes on the car and reprogram keys. So the original key the thief has can't work. As our merc is beloved! And don't want it stolen! Specially we have MERC persolised number plates which are worth more then the car on the market, that arnt on the insurance and don't want the plates in the wrong hands, or the car!

The dealer can delete the key from the list that work and order you a new key.

It's part of the MB theft prevention system. It's the same thing they would do if a key stopped working (they do).

Correct me if I'm wrong...but isn't is a fundamental of securing your car that...you don't keep the keys on the car?

Except that now that key won't be able to START your car, but said thief could still use the metal bladed key to gain access to the vehicle and steal whatever was inside it.
