break light stopped working

After about a year of intermittent performance and having to pop the trunk and twist the pink socket holding the brake light it no longer illuminates and gives me a constant error in the dash . is there a diy fix for this or do i just need a new one installed at the mechanic. i have a 1998e320 sedan.

Sorry I forgot to mention that it is only the passenger brake light doing this the drivers side still works fine. Can this still be a problem with the brake light switch?

Try to put another bulb with socket, if still not working, might be fuse or bad surface connecting..!

ZAYED,,
It has been intermittently been going off for over a year and I am usually able to fix it by wiggling the socket around. Now it does not work at all and I have tried new bulb, I also tried sanding down the areas the contacts touch and light doesn't come on at all. Which fuse does the brake light use?

I had this issue with my right rear brake light. I could turn the socket back and forth a few times and it would work for a bit, then off again. Finally, I soldered the surfaces that make contact with the metal brake plate and it's been great since. The socket contacts didn't seem corroded until I tried to add the solder. Had to use flux multiple times to get it to flow.
