Hello i have a 2002 E320 and just recently i started experiencing problems with the ignition switch. When i insert the key in the car usually makes a zip sound like it has been recognized. well, it stopped making that noise and the key will not turn. although it does work probably 1/20 attempts. has anybody experienced anything similar to this? if so what would the steps to resolve this tedious issue. It does have the smart key. I really don't wanna take it to the dealer because i know it would cost an arm and an leg. Any clues or information would be greatly appreciated!

You are screwed---to test whether you have a bad key, ignition module or some other drive authorization electrical issue , you will have to take the car to be diagnosed by someone other than a voodoo specialist!!
