97 E320 Fuel pump/relay problems

I have 97 E320 and have a starting problem. When there is no engine start, the engine will initially run for about 8-10 seconds and then die. On restart the engine will turn over and there is voltage to the plug wire, but no fuel in the cylinder. I am trying to determine if the no fuel situation is because of a bad fuel pump relay, or bad fuel pump or something else. Again, the engine starts and continues to run great every once in a while. Does anybody have an idea of which problem I have and is there a way to check and confirm.

Assuming you believe that there is a fuel deliver issue, simply remove the outgoing fuel line from the fuel pump and crank the car-----does fuel flow----- simple yes or no!!

Regarding any relay. look at the schematic printed on the relay, apply voltage----does the relay make a sound---simple yes or no!!
