1997 Mercedes E420
1997 e420 Issues

Howdy Folks and thank ya for having me. First time Mercedes owner here and first time poster.

So, I recently bought a 1997 e420 with 217,000 miles on it. It has a few issues but the engine seemed to run quite well. About two weeks after I bought it, it started dying on me, mid-drive. Right before it died, I would always get a 'acc.skid..' error. I was able to limp it to my local O'Reilly auto parts store and use one of them engine code error reader thing-a-ma-gadgets(yes, that's the scientific name). It told me that I was getting a crankshaft position sensor error, a camshaft position error, and two errors related to the o2 sensors. I was able to replace the camshaft and the crankshaft position sensor a few days ago.

For the past two days, it ran quite well. On the way to work today, however, it did the exact same thing...acc.skid error, dead, wont start. I had to get it towed home.

Im very, very car inept so I dont know where to go from here. I was told that the bad o2 sensors would make the car run poorly but wouldn't kill it. I was also told that there are three or four sensors that would kill the engine, two of which I just replaced. The third, I believe is the mass flow sensor, which my cousin replaced less than a year ago.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Forgive me if this question has been asked before.

Thank ya kindly.

Dave

Well now that you have loads of time on your hands I would spend some time researching who in the area has a very good track record with the service and repair of older MB's. Then go visit with the folks, because with out fault codes or front end diagnostics(is it ignition-voltage,fuel-fuel pump actuation\pressure or mechanical) you will be left with loads of speculation!!
