OBD codes P0173 and P0170
March 2014, I bought my first MB - a 2001 E320 that has 16,500 miles on it and it now has 18,360 miles. The check engine line lit up the other day. I checked the gas tank cap and it was a little bit loose. I tightened it and then drove for 9 miles but the CEL stayed on. I went to Advance auto to get the OBD code which turned out to be P0173 and P0170. Based on the discussions I have read in this forum, the typical cause of the codes is a bad MAF. Will the MAF go bad for a car with this low mileage? Should I bring the car to a mechanic that has the MB star diagnostic scanner? I am sure the dealer has that tool but it will definitely cost me an arm and a leg there. Will appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks.

I too have these same codes. Was thinking it was my fuel sending unit, since it had been leaking. But that didn't fix it. I am only getting the codes when my car is at idle. Thinking maybe it's the MAF as well.

Out Of Control!!
Your MAF has been laying around for years and loads of stuff go bad with time--however your suggestion to find someone with MB DAS is a good one---with the quick test you will get a bench mark on the condition of the electronics on the car!!
