Exhaust and radio question

Hello,

About a year ago I bought a 98/99 W210 with around 125k. haven't done much to it other than a few cosmetic bits -- its my daily driver.

Since the beginning I've had the infamous up'r cat rattle. My question is, if I cut out my up'r cats and replace them with a test pipe.. will I throw code on lower O2? Is there a way to trick this?

I'm new to the MB world, don't know the play book yet.

Also, my factory radio volume knob will no longer adjust volume (looks to be a common thing). Ihave tried to spray contact cleaner in there.. no luck.

Will any aftermarket head unit work here? Or is 4v my only option? How do I know if I have 4v or 3v unit?

Best,

Thanks guys!

Sure!

Just get it coded out or do it yourself with an WIFI OBD tool.

I replaced my head unit with a Kenwood Kdcx696 and I'm really happy with it. I have the Bose option. The Kenwood unit had the higher voltage (4v) and the volume cranks up nicely. I've heard people complain about head units where thet can't get descent volūme and I assume it has to do with the voltage output. Mine cranks. The Kenwood sounds a thousand times better then the OEM. I have audio Bluetooth connection, hands free phone and USB now, plus AM actually works. Best $300 I ever spent on the car and I've had it about 4 years
