Help Retrieving Part, Duo Valve

I did it, dropped one of the brass plungers fro the duo valve inside the engine bay. I can't see it to retrieve it. It seems it must be under the big plastic black box with emission control information on it. I don't know what that box is or does so I couldn't search how to remove it.

Can someone tell me after chastising me for my stupidity? If it's tough to remove I will just have to get a new duo valve.

The only upside is I do have heat back which had quit working. I am operating without the one plunger of the passenger side.

Thanks for any help you can share. 1998 E300 diesel.

I am not going to chastise you,on the contray I am going to congratulate you----you know have the new all year round heat feature that is now designed into all 2020 MB Antartic models--bravo.

The lost plunger is under the engines control unit box--be patient, have loads of tape and marking pens available when you remove the control modules---do us all a favor make sure you put them back in the correct spot(take pics) else you will be whining again--my car wont start after I found my duovalve plunger!!

Thanks for going easy on me. That year round feature will come in handy here in Florida.

What I need to know is how to remove that box. Any help?

Isn't Plutoe really entertaining? LOL
Beside taking 1/2 of car apart, you can use couple of handy tools.

Both of them cost about $7 together and I bet you will find more uses for them.
Have fun

The part is brass so the magnet won't help, unfortunately and I can't see where it is to use a grab tool. I can't fit my vacuum hose in there either.

I opened up the control box, saw the rats nest of wires, modules, fuse block, etc. closed it back up and ordered a new duo valve.

Lesson learned.
