2005 e320
Looking for a daily driver. Just saw a 2005 e320 diesel with 163k on it. They're asking $8000. Just want to know some problems to expect if I buy. Own a 2000 E430 now so how difficult to DIY on the diesel? Any advice or info is appreciated. WAs hoping to find awd due to sometimes snowy weather in area. I don't drive the e430 in snow much but have been told they do well as does the e320.

That would be W211 body.
320cdi is very desirable engine, delivering 40 mpg, but google "black death" subject.
Not bad engine if you keep good eye on it, but can turn pain on the behind if you let small damage go too far.
Also study SBC brakes.

I'm actually in a similar position. I find myself going back and forth on the car. A family member had the CDI when it came out and I always admired the car, and I like the motor better than the newer BlueTec, I like the rattle and don't mind the smoke. And 700 miles before fill up? My daily driver now is a 5.3L Silverado, 37MPG sounds unbelievable.
It's a beautiful and performing vehicle for the money on one hand, on the other the brakes sound sketchy, and if anything major goes wrong you're in a pickle real quick, cost of repair vs value. Other than brakes and the mentioned Black Death, most issues reported on repair pal seemed reasonable in price. I cannot speak for DIY but there are several good YouTube videos out there for some things, glow plugs, oil, fuel filter etc.
In truth I'm hoping for someone to convince me to just go for it 😊

You will find that the I6 CDI's are solid engines and much easier to work on than gassers---It would be nice if you could get the seller to put new glow plugs in the car and if possible take the car to a dealer and have them do a pre purchase inspection---and no doubt you will get a list of things wrong. Simply take it with a grain of salt and enjoy the car---However after all said and done it is an eleven year old car!!
