Why do parking lights have two bulbs?

Why do parking lights have two bulbs?
I replaced the tiny H6 bulb in my front left parking light earlier and noticed there are two bulbs enclosed in the parking lamp which doesn't seem to make any sense. Does anyone know why this is?
