2002 E430, ABS malfunction indicator lamp

Hello All,

From time to time, and typically in hot weather, the ABS malfunction lamp comes on, accompanied by the ESP/BAS malfunction lamp. Typically you can continue on your drive, with no loss of power/acceleration. When you shut the engine off and restart, the lights are gone ... until next time. On rare occasions, after stopping and trying to restart the transmission shift lever is locked in position "P" and must be unlocked manually. Per the manual, this indicates an electrical malfunction.

At the shop, they cannot replicate the problem.

Anyone else experience this and been able to determine a specific cause/cure?

Many thanks and best wishes,

clg6

A gaggle of MB's
On the "warning lights" some would suspect Brake Light Switch (consider replacement with genuine MB part only).

On the tranny - some would suggest you check - consider replacing - tranny adapter plug (pilot bushin) - again genuine MB/MOPAR part only - and pull/clean Transmission Control Moduel with MAF cleaner.

Keep the beat !
