Jetta TDI wagon (soon to be bought back from VW)
Need guidance on buying E320 or E350 wagon

Hello, I'm taking the VW buyback option for my TDI Wagon and need to replace it. I've always loved the E320 and E350 wagons (Rear Wheel Drive). I was hoping someone could tell me what year ranges were the most reliable / required the least maintenance for the E320 AND E350 wagons. I am not at all mechanically inclined but have a trusted mechanic. Am I kidding myself by thinking it won't cost me lots of money to keep on the road as a daily driver who drives a lot? Also, I am open to any other suggestions on used MB wagons that would be a fit. C class etc. Again, NOT looking for a 4-matic. Thanks in advance for your input!

Was that you in other section?
If you don't want 4M, than w210 wagon it is. They are way cheaper to upkeep than W211 for sure.

I have a '99 E320 4matic wagon. If you don't plan on doing anything yourself, it can definitely get expensive. Nothing is cheap for these compared to other less expensive cars. You can get them for a very good price, I paid $3000 plus dealer fees for mine with 141k on it, PA state inspected for almost a year, and in good cosmetic shape.

I've had to buy 4 tires, front and rear brakes plus calipers, all brake hoses, motor mounts, all fluids, tie rod ends, valve cover gaskets + spark plugs, air filter, cabin air filters, oil change, fuel filter, recharged the AC, transmission fluid and filter, transmission 13 pin connector, misc light bulbs and repaired the backup lights harness myself and fixed the climate control system buttons(common issue). I will be doing/did most of the labor myself, I don't want to imagine what paying for every item on this list would cost me. That's all common wear and tear items for a car with 141k on it, so what I would've expected. The car runs great, always starts right up, and has never left me stranded. I'm going to start doing the high mileage club badges once I hit 155K, ~3K more to go.
